ESA hosting first Annual ESA Abroad Gala at Dumbo Loft, 4/30

Essex Street Academy, one of GVYC’s partner schools, is holding its first annual ESA Abroad gala on April 30th at the Dumbo Loft. For more information about event details, tickets and donations, please visit http://essexstreetacademygala.yolasite.com

The funds raised will support ESA Abroad programs such as last Saturday’s retreat where fourteen Essex Street Academy students spent their day learning about sustainability in the Amazon rainforest, teamwork and leadership skills. See highlights at here.

The school hopes to send thirteen low-income students to Peru this summer. Says one potential traveler, “I will use this experience to show society that as a minority, I will not be just another statistic in this ‘learning gap’ that has been created for us. That I can and will succeed just as well as anyone can…I will go to college and use this experience to set a new standard for achievement so that I can excel in my life.”
